Today, we will discuss “The Iconic Jeep Grille is a Scannable Barcode.” The 7-slot grille on the front of every Jeep vehicle is as iconic as it can get. According to the company, it’s a symbol of authenticity, freedom, and adventure. More than the cool representation, the Jeep grille has taken a new form just this year–a scannable barcode.

Using an AI that taps into a database of thousands of Jeep images, a Snapchat lens will be able to identify the nameplate and model of any Jeep vehicle with the scannable barcode feature. No more peering around behind or on the side of a Jeep to check. This feature was developed by Jeep’s Canadian branch.

This new cool feature is called the JeepCode. According to the company, it elevates the experience for Jeep enthusiasts by making the Jeep hunt even easier and cooler! Give it a try here. Take a snap of a Jeep grille using the JeepCode and you will be presented with information about the vehicle. Then, you can easily google inventories, dealerships, and even prices related to the particular Jeep.

Any Jeep bearing the seven-slot grille is scannable, including the new Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L.

The company wishes to appeal to younger customers by making a feature as techy as possible. Jeep has dived deep into virtual shopping with its online customization. You can customize a Jeep and purchase it without leaving the bed or while having breakfast. How easy!

The Iconic Jeep Grille is a Scannable Barcode: More cool stuff about the Jeep grille

It wasn’t designed for Jeep

The grille that you all know today wasn’t a Jeep original concept. It was actually from Ford. Both Ford and Willys Overland (the producer of the first jeep) were commissioned by the government to design war vehicles back in the Second World War. The flat grille with integrated headlights was from the design of Ford’s “Pygmy” but has since become a Jeep identifier.

Read online forums and be amused by theories and speculations about the design. Some claimed that Ford designed it that way so that users can take it off the truck and use it to actually grill food. What do you think about that?

The slots used to be 13

Not only was the grille designed for Ford, but it also featured more slots. In fact, it had 13! This 13-slot grille was on the 1940 design of the Jeep, but in 1941, it was reduced to just 9. And then finally, the makers settled with just 7 which you all know and love today.

This one got a lot of origin theories, too. Some think that the trademark for the nine-slot grille belonged to Ford so Jeep just had to be a tad bit creative by removing two. Others say it could be an allusion to the fact that the Jeep was the first car used on all 7 continents or to the 7 designers of the Jeep.

Whether these theories are true, no one can tell except people at Jeep themselves. But for now, enjoy the elevated features brought to you by technology!
